Job description

PocketMath is looking for a Senior Systems Engineer to enhance all aspects of our current system and network infrastructure. We currently processed more than 60's of billions of impressions per day and that will be doubling in a matter of months. Hence the ability to design and support a  next-generation and scalable microservices architecture to meet 99.9% system uptime is critical. We have more than 100 Linux instances to be managed and hence a strong ability to automate tasks is critical.


What you will do:


  • Work with development team to design and implement system and network infrastructure to ensure performance, scalability and availability.
  • Conduct network utilization and applications/system performance analysis and follow-up with tuning, capacity planning and load demand forecasting.
  • Put in place automation and enhance existing tools for our cloud systems in these areas: system administration, deployment, monitoring and reporting
  • Diagnose resolve complex service problems to prevent problem recurrence
  • Coordinate product releases and deployments
  • Manage application upgrades including scheduling, coordinating, communicating and maintaining high availability and data integrity throughout process
  • Interact and influence development so that products are ops-friendly  
  • Maintain and ensure backups and disaster recovery procedures are maintained and tested regularly 
  • Participate in 24x7 on-call rotation


What you will need:


  • BS or MS in computer science or a related field or equivalent relevant experience
  • Proven track record of maintaining highly-available, real-time, scalable globally-distributed systems
  • 5+ years of Linux administration in a large 24x7 production environment.
  • Strong understanding of Linux performance tuning and kernel parameters.
  • Strong experience managing medium to large scale systems on Amazon AWS
  • Experience with application and configuration management tools such as Opswork, Chef, Puppet, Nagios, Sensu
  • Experience with AutoScaling cloud system
  • Working knowledge of one or more database products (MySQL, HBase, etc.)
  • Knowledge of systems level security processes and tools
  • Experience working in an agile SOA development environment.
  • Strong communication skills, and the ability to collaborate closely with remote team members.
  • Experience in continuous integration environments, especially Jenkins
  • Experience with source code management and issue tracking tools, especially Git and Jira
  • Good to have:
  • Experience supporting and troubleshooting Ruby/Java-based web applications and event streaming processing engine 
  • Scripting experience in Java, Ruby or Python
