TransferFriend is a FinTech startup based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Out of 600 million people in ASEAN, 73% are unbanked. Money transfers are a driving force for many economies and relate to efficiencies of service providers. Financial literacy is poor and not a much-discussed topic when household income is low.

The Finance Industry is the least trusted in the world today (Edelman, 2017).

TransferFriend offers easy, safe and up to 85% cheaper international money transfers. We believe this industry needs a radically different way to build relationships and trust. Our mission is to offer the best money transfer service with inspirational financial education.

We are a team of young and energetic doers who are unafraid of big and demanding challenges. Backed by capable angel investors and surrounded by industry veteran advisors, we aim to significantly change the ASEAN money transfer market.

Responsibilities

Job Description: Finance Manager

 

We at TransferFriend are on a mission is to significantly reduce the cost of cross-border money transfers, remittances and educate people on money matters in ASEAN. With the rapid growth of our team, we are searching for a Finance Manager to join our ranks. 
  

Your tasks will include, but might not be limited to:

    • Financial planning, budgeting and budget control

    • Minimal bookkeeping at first, later work with a vendor or assistant

    • Auditing the assistant or third party vendor

    • Balance sheet reports to the management

    • Cash flow and P&L statements to the management

    • Demystifying financial decisions for the management and greater team

    • Minimising financial risk (currency or otherwise) and sharing your advice

    • Making sure the company follows the necessary financial regulations (in co-op with Compliance)

 

How is it to work in TransferFriend?

We are young, international and progressive. Working with us is probably like in a racing team. Obstacles might come on our way once in a while, but eventually we are racing against time. We tend to learn new things on the go, but this doesn’t mean we tolerate stupidity for the sake of speed. Oftentimes we do things that have not been done before by anyone in the world. So it is more important to experiment fast, and learn from the experience. You can’t lead by following. The best days in our work are the ones where we realized how ignorant we were yesterday.

 

Besides learning by doing, we also believe to be responsible people. We are not as naive as we were in our 20s (truth be told, some are still in their 20s), but like to take on big world changing and challenging projects. We treat each other with respect, but are very straight forward in our feedback. We all see ourselves working on this project for years to come.

  • Good computer skills, and feels at home in Excel

  • Tact and discretion, for dealing with confidential information

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications. Knowledge of working with Mac is an advantage
