Teach for ASEAN (T4A) was started by a group of young, passionate people in Singapore who want to connect ASEAN Youths, grassroots organizations and good businesses together to attain the common vision of improving equity in education and access to decent employment. We piloted in Yangon, Myanmar in May 2017, and have since been working with organizations and individuals from different sectors to provide good education and employment opportunities for our beneficiaries through community events and training programmes. Ultimately, we strive to be a network of people, resources, and impactful ideas across ASEAN to achieve our Mission. T4A is supported by Care Positioning System, a non-profit, volunteer-driven social enterprise in Singapore that strives to improve the quality and impact of volunteerism for volunteers and beneficiaries all over the world. T4A shares the vision in promoting impactful volunteerism across ASEAN.
The Country Representative is a crucial role for Teach for ASEAN as we move into our third year of our operations in Myanmar. As the Country Representative, you will manage the operation in Yangon with the support of our International Support Team, lead the local team and develop our programmes in Myanmar and have the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of many youths.
This is an exceptional opportunity for individuals passionate in the social sector to spend at least 1.5 years in the Golden Land of Myanmar.
While there is a team in Singapore, Portugal, New Zealand and local Myanmar volunteers to support you when needed, working in a developing country like Myanmar would not be easy. High levels resilience and adaptability are needed – however, you are guaranteed to be greatly rewarded for this once-in-a-lifetime experience.
This is a Fellowship programme that will place you in Yangon for at least 1.5 years, with some monthly stipends. You will become a leader with managerial responsibilities to build, implement and grow our social impact programmes.
- Design run and grow components of Project Runway and Workplace Skills Programme.
- Network with employers, training schools and other NGOs to create opportunities for Myanmar youths to realise their potential.
- Develop and maintain volunteer programmes.
- Assess needy communities and place youths on our support programmes.
- Reach out to more supporters and gather resources from all over the world to power the programmes.
- Build, grow and sustain the social enterprise to generate revenue to power the organization.
Management & Leadership
- Oversee and manage Teach for ASEAN’s programmes, taking responsibility for ensuring delivery.
- Oversee Teach for ASEAN’s finances in Myanmar.
- Initiating and setting goals for programs according to the strategic objectives of the organization.
- Planning the programs from start to completion involving deadlines, milestones and processes.
- Developing or approving budgets and operations.
Volunteer Training and Engagement
- Work with Programme Executive to develop and maintain volunteer records, training curriculum, training checklists, and manuals as necessary.
- Develop, regularly update, and carry out volunteer orientation for all new volunteers.
- Plan, schedule, and oversee quarterly volunteer in-service training sessions.
- Ensure that an appropriate volunteer appreciation program is in place. Carry out program and plan annual volunteer appreciation event.
- Maintain and manage relationships with Teach for ASEAN’s existing partners and supporters, and secure additional partnerships with organizations who can help Teach for ASEAN and its programmes thrive.

Living in Myanmar
You will live in a single room in a shared volunteer dormitory. You will live at the level of the people with whom you work. This means you might sometimes do without most of the amenities that you may be used to. Living conditions will be simple, thus flexibility and a sense of humour regarding living conditions will ease transition to the lifestyle. During rainy seasons, there is no guarantee of continuous electricity or running water and facilities will be very basic. Drinking water must be boiled, filtered, or purchased.
Living Allowance and Money Management
You will receive a monthly allowance in Myanmar currency (kyat) that is sufficient to live at the level of the local people. The allowance covers food, household supplies, clothing, transportation to and from work, utilities, recreation and entertainment, and incidental expenses. You are expected to live at a level that is comparable with that of your host country counterparts. Due to foreign sanctions, most people pay cash for everything.

- You’re a self-starter with an exceptional work ethic who is comfortable being judged on results and working autonomously, and who thrives in positions of responsibility
- You have excellent communication skills. You are also willing to go the extra mile for the cause.
- You’re confident when speaking in public, and when managing a range of stakeholders.
- You relish the challenge of the unknown, uncertain and the unpredictable (operating as a ‘stranger in a strange land’ is your cup of tea) and seek to build strong financial and organizational foundations for long-haul social impact.
- You enjoy being in positions of leadership, and will enjoy the responsibility of bringing the best out of a team in a dynamic, multicultural work environment.
- You have reasonable levels of fitness. If you have any health concerns that may be affected by tropical heat of up to 40 degrees Celsius, please discuss with a medical professional prior to travel.
- Min. 3 years of work experience in project management, community development, education / training, marketing or business development will be ideal.
- Candidates who have strong backgrounds but do not meet this requirement are welcomed to write to us.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of leadership and management principles as they relate to non-profit/ voluntary organizations is key.
- Knowledge in business development / new business start-up / lean startup / digital marketing is a plus.
- Knowledge in training / education will be a plus.
